Carter Project Scrap Book

Here are other pictures of the project that might be of interest.  This house represents the fourth home under 1300 square feet that LifeSTYLED has successfully renovated and sold at profit. We consider ourselves to be specialists in this type of  space-challenged renovation.

Key Exterior Modifications

These before and after pictures illustrate that a few "right" choices go a long way in effecting change without major alterations.

The elements that went into this change are:

  • Dimensional roof shingles
  • Color coordinated paint package
  • Removal of old shutters and fabrication of new, wider and more authentic sets in keeping with original.
  • Removal of the dated awnings
  • Removal of old storm door
  • New lighting, numbers, and mailbox
  • Landscaping and mulch
  • Upgraded replacement windows

LifeSTYLED Tip

When renovating a home that is considered a "story and a half" it is imperative that the attic level be fully insulated and enough air conditioning is specified for the job.  Ideally, the second story should have a separate unit, but this is not cost effective on such a small home.

The upstairs in these homes heats up quickly and is inherently difficult to regulate the temperature in.

Fully insulating the crawl space in the eaves as well as the roof before putting up sheetrock will greatly help to reduce the heat gain.

We have specified dampers to direct the flow up in the summer and down in the winter which is another option.  At last resort, a small window unit may be needed no matter how hard you try to make a single zone HVAC unit work.
